Apple officially announces Ted Lasso season 4

Ted Lasso season 4

Ted Lasso was the first big hit on Apple TV+, but the show’s fate has been up in the air since season 3 concluded in May 2023. Initially, we all thought season 3 would be the show’s final season, but there have been a lot of hints recently that a season 4 could happen after all.

Now, Jason Sudeikis and Apple have made it official: Ted Lasso season four is in the works.

Ted Lasso season 4 is official

In an interview on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, Sudeikis confirmed that season four of Ted Lasso is being written as we speak. In addition to playing the title character, Sudeikis is also a creator, writer, and producer on the show.

“We’re writing season four now; that’s the official word,” Sudeikis said in a clip posted to X. “Ted’s coaching a women’s team.”

This aligns with previous rumors about Ted Lasso’s focus in season 4. For example, Sigmund Judge reported last month that filming was set to begin in May or June in London, with the “focus shifting at AFC Richmond to the formation of its women’s team.”

While there were questions about Sudeikis’s involvement in season four, it now sounds like Ted Lasso himself will be coaching that newly formed AFC Richmond women’s team.

There’s no word on when Ted Lasso season 4 will premiere on Apple TV+, but we’re likely a long way away from that. Nonetheless, it’s nice to have official confirmation from Sudeikis that a fourth season is coming.

Another hint at season 4: the Ted Lasso account on X mysteriously came back to life today after 18 months of silence.

More details

Shortly after the New Heights podcast teaser, Apple officially announced more details about Ted Lasso season 4. In a press release, the company confirmed that Sudeikis will reprise his role as Ted Lasso.

Sudeikis will serve as an executive producer alongside Brendan Hunt, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, Joe Kelly, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein. Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, 30 Rock) has also signed on as an executive producer as part of a new overall deal with Apple TV+.

In the press release, Jason Sudeikis says:

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+:

“‘Ted Lasso’ has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief. Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

In the meantime, you can catch up on the first three seasons of Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ today.
